A colourful and highly engaging number-building card game
Ipso, published by Gigamic and designed for 2 to 6 players, is a quick 15-minute game perfectly balancing tactical planning, risk management, and adaptability.
The Hook: Build the Perfect Pyramid In Ipso, players race to build a pyramid of cards, strategically swapping unknown face-down cards for known numbers to create ascending rows and maximise their score.
How to Play:
- Every player starts with a 14-card pyramid dealt face-down in rows of 5, 4, 3, and 2, topped off with a single Star card.
- On their turn, a player chooses one of the two face-up cards in the centre of the table and swaps it with one of the face-down cards in their pyramid. The replaced card is then flipped face-up into the centre for the next player to potentially use.
- The twist? You can only replace face-down cards. Once a card is flipped face-up and added to your pyramid, it is locked in place for the rest of the game!
- At the end of the game, players only score points for rows that are strictly in ascending numerical order. A mixed-colour ascending row scores 1 point per card, while a single-colour ascending row scores 2 points per card, with extra points awarded for stars.
- The game ends with a thrilling final dilemma: players can keep their top Star card for 3 bonus points, or discard it to draw one last card from the deck in a bid to fix a broken row.
Key Features:
- Simple but Strategic: The rules are incredibly easy to teach, but players must carefully manage their choices since any row not in ascending order is discarded and scores zero points.
- High Replay Value: The game includes an "Odd and even rows" variant that awards bonus points for rows containing all odd or all even numbers, as well as a 4-game "Tournament mode".
- Vibrant Components: The box includes 90 cards numbered 1 to 90 spanning five bright colours (orange, green, blue, yellow, and magenta), plus 6 Star cards.
